We are a group of Christians in Dewsbury, part of Dewsbury Evangelical Church.

We want to take the good news about Jesus to some of the people on the ‘margins’ of Dewsbury life: asylum seekers, refugees, immigrants and so on.

We are doing that by being a welcoming family for people who might not feel welcome here in the UK by including them in our day to day lives, helping them where we can, and teaching them about the cross of Jesus as we go.

Family
The Bible describes God’s people as the ‘household of God’ (1 Tim 3:15). We try to live this out. We are a family of God’s people. So we want to spend time together in the week. We help each other out with every day life: doing some decorating, helping with the kids, giving lifts. We try and make a point of including non-Christians in our time spent together. We want and expect unbelievers to be with us. In particular we have a heart for those who are new to the UK, such as those fleeing persecution in their own countries.

Bible
We meet together every Sunday morning as a group to study the Bible together. It is God speaking to us. We teach the Bible in an interactive way. One of our leaders prepares what we are studying and teaches us, but people can ask questions when they like and we can learn from each other as well. We try to make our teaching easily understandable for everyone, especially those who can’t speak English perfectly. Because our focus is on people from other nationalities, we try to keep the English simple to understand, and we have translations of the Bible in other languages available.

On Sunday evenings we go along to the evening meeting with the rest of our church, Dewsbury Evangelical. This is essential for us as we are part of a bigger church.

Joining our mission
We want to grow in size as a group by seeing new people enter God’s kingdom. We don’t want to steal people from others churches. We aren’t actively recruiting people who are already Christians.
